How to camp with a caravan: a practical guide
Do you remember your first caravan trip? We really remembered ours! When we first went to Austria, we didn't know exactly what to do when we arrived at the campsite. So we made this article (and video) so you don't have to get confused.
This article summarizes the 10 steps to camping properly with a campervan. In the video, the Adria Adora 573PT is equipped with a pressurized water connection and a "mover" (motorized drive for maneuvering).
Step 1: Registration at the campsite
Upon arrival, you must visit the campsite reception. Here you will receive a magnetic card (chip or other entry information) for the entrance barrier and get useful information about the campsite facilities. Modern campsites often allow digital check-in, which speeds up the procedure considerably.
Step 2: Parking
Drive slowly through the campground to your site. When you get out, pair the mover controller with the campervan so it's ready to manoeuvre. Then carefully park and level the caravan using the app or a spirit level.
Step 3: Stabilise the caravan
The caravan needs to be thoroughly secured. Use the handbrake and chocks to secure the wheels. Then unscrew the caravan's stabilising legs, which you can do by hand or with a drill.
Step 4: Connect electricity and water
Prepare an extension cord in case the electrical connection is far away. Connect the caravan to the electricity and check that the appliances are working. Don't forget a long enough hose for the water supply.
Step 5: Handling waste water
If you don't have a direct waste, use an external grey water container . Place it under the caravan's drain and ensure that it is set up properly to drain the water.
Step 6: Preparing the shower and toilet
For a comfortable shower, we recommend having an external water boiler. Prepare your toilet using special products, ideally recommended by the toilet manufacturer, to ensure proper functioning, cleanliness and odor avoidance.
Step 7: Make yourself comfortable
Congratulations, you're already living. Now all you have to do is pull up and anchor the awning, take out the chairs and throw your feet up!
