What type of motorhome is right for you?

Have you finally decided to buy a motorhome, but you are lost in the wide range of different types of motorhomes and caravans? Let us sort it out. In this article, you'll learn what types of motorhomes there are, how they're divided, and maybe even get a clearer idea of which one would be best for you.

Campervan

Different names are often used for vehicles in this category, which then have slightly different definitions. Commonly, you will come across the terms campervan, camper van, compact caravan or simply van. A campervan is simply recognised as retaining the bodywork of a basic vehicle around the perimeter, but converted to a campervan inside.

The Vestvaba has two main advantages: an overall smaller footprint compared to semi-integrated, fully integrated and campervans, and it is also more practical for everyday use. It can be used as a recreational vehicle for holidays, weekend trips, city trips or overnight stays with friends, but it can also be used as a passenger car (just a little bigger) for commuting to work or shopping.

The Adria has three different ranges within its body styles: the ACTIVE, ideal for those looking for an everyday car and a motorhome in one // the TWIN, a motorhome that lets you enjoy life in a van. // TWIN SPORTS with innovative pop top roof are made for adventure, ideal for sporty people with outdoor gear, but also for holidays with children.

Semi-integrated motorhomes

Another type of motorhome is the semi-integrated motorhome, or semi-integral. This is the terminus technicus used by most manufacturers. In this type of motorhome, the chassis of the vehicle with the driver's cabin is combined with the body of the motorhome. The original driver's cab of the base vehicle is retained and by turning the driver and passenger seat, it completes the living space. Each motorhome manufacturer produces the motorhome body itself. For the body, Adria has developed and perfected through decades of know-how the so-called "Comprex" construction, which optimally combines the torsional strength of wood, the durability of polyurethane and the moisture barrier properties of polyester.

Semi-integrated caravans are larger and therefore naturally more spacious and comfortable than built-in caravans. They are equipped with a bedroom in the rear, a bathroom (with integrated shower or separate shower) and a living area that can also be converted into a sleeping area. Some semi-integrals also have a pull-out bed in the front. This practical layout makes semi-integrated caravans suitable for two people as well as for small families or groups.

Semi-integrated caravans usually have a garage in which bicycles or other equipment can be easily transported.

Within this category of motorhome, a distinction can be made between compact semi-integrated motorhomes, which are not significantly different from motorhomes in their small vehicle width, and semi-integrated motor homes with a vehicle width of around 2,30 m and a vehicle length of 6-7,50 m, which are already significantly different from larger cars or vans.

COMPACT is ideal for couples or small families who don't want to do without the comfort and space of a motorhome, but want to be flexible and spontaneous when planning their trips. // CORAL, ideal for two to four people, for example if you plan longer journeys as a couple or occasionally take children/grandchildren with you. // MATRIX is ideal for all families with two children who prefer the sleeker look and driving characteristics of a semi-integrated motorhome to those of a niche motorhome!

Alcoves

This type of motorhome has a solid construction with a sleeping area above the driver's cab, which is usually designed for 2 people. This means that many alcoves layouts can accommodate up to 6 people, which is why these motorhomes are particularly popular with families.

Historically, the alcoves of alcoves were small side rooms that contained sleeping space. They usually did not have a window and were so small that people slept in them sitting up. Although the name and function of the alcove in the caravan has remained the same, fortunately windows, ventilation and bed lengths of up to 2 m are now standard.

The bodywork is comparable to that of semi-integrated caravans; here too, a chassis with a driver's cab is chosen as the basic vehicle on which the caravan body is then built. The driver's cab is also retained and is part of the living space. However, unlike the semi-integrated models, a fixed recessed body is added instead of a roof hood.

Due to the dimensions, the alcoves take some getting used to. Driving characteristics are noticeably different from cars or vans, in addition to the need to pay attention to the height of bridges and low passages. But it's relatively easy to get used to and in return you get a comfortable caravan where everyone has their own little haven.

The CORAL XL is ideal for a family holiday or for a group of friends who want to go on holiday together.

Integrated motorhomes

In integrated or fully integrated motorhomes, only the chassis with the cab platform, dashboard, controls and other individual parts remain from the basic vehicle; the cab is not used. Instead, the front of the vehicle and the rest of the bodywork is a special construction designed by the motorhome manufacturer itself.

The advantage of this layout is that the driver's cab can flow seamlessly into the living area, so there is more space. From the outside, fully integrated motorhomes look more attractive because the entire exterior design forms a single unit. This style of motorhome usually impresses with its high-quality interior design and wide range of equipment options. Comfort is a top priority here, and when it comes to storage space, integrated motorhomes are a class above semi-integrated and alcoves.

Most integrated motorhomes have a front-folding bed, so the motorhome can comfortably fit 4 people. In addition to families, integrated motorhomes are also often chosen by couples who don't want to do without comfort and performance on vacation or are planning longer trips.
