Answers to frequently asked questions about driving, driving licences, financing and maintenance.
A campervan is a motorhome built on the chassis of a standard van. It retains the van’s cab, but the living area is constructed from insulated sandwich panels. What makes the difference: a campervan is around 30 cm narrower (approx. 205 cm vs. 235 cm), is easier to handle, easier to park in town and has slightly lower fuel consumption (approx. 8.5–10 l/100 km). On the other hand, it has less storage space, a narrower living area and also a lower level of insulation.
The vast majority of our motorhomes (Twin, Twin Sports, Twin Supreme, Supertwin and Sun Living V Series) weigh less than 3.5 tonnes – so a standard Category B driving licence is sufficient.
Yes and no. The length of Adria Twin models ranges from 5.41 m (Twin 540) to 6.36 m (Twin 640), with a width of around 205 cm and a height of around 257–270 cm. The longer models won’t fit into a standard parking space (typically 5 m × 2.4 m), but they will fit into two spaces side by side. The campervan won’t fit into the vast majority of underground garages (height limit 200–220 cm) – height is the main restriction. It will, however, fit into shopping centre garages with a height limit of 270 cm or more. In the centre of Prague, you can park with the vehicle in designated zones just as you would with a car (blue zones for residents only, orange/green zones for short-term parking; payment must always be made via the app or a pay-on-the-spot machine).
This van is the cheapest to run of all the vehicles. Real-world fuel consumption is 8.5–10 litres of diesel per 100 km; third-party liability insurance costs 2,500–6,000 CZK per year; comprehensive insurance costs 15,000–25,000 CZK per year; and the motorway toll sticker costs 2,570 CZK per year (it falls within the 3.5-tonne category). Service intervals for the Fiat/Citroën/MB chassis are the same as for a standard van (every 30–40,000 km or 2 years). Wear parts are cheap and widely available. If you also use the campervan as your everyday car (it is only slightly larger than a standard family car), it can even replace a second car in the family – this is also a common reason why people choose a campervan.
Yes, that’s one of the main reasons why people buy campervans. The Adria Twin handles like a large van, can park almost anywhere a standard car can fit, and can easily handle a trip to IKEA, a pushchair, bikes and transporting four people.
Our Adria Twin and Sun Living V Series conversions are factory-fitted – the vehicle leaves the factory with the living area already fitted, and comes with M1 type-approval (i.e. as a passenger car), type-approval and a COC certificate. No further approvals are required – you simply purchase and register it as a new car. In contrast, an amateur conversion of a van requires individual approvals (reclassification from N1 to M1, etc.) and compliance with technical standards (ventilation, gas, beds). With a factory-fitted conversion, you also benefit from a full Adria warranty, a 10-year watertightness guarantee and a comprehensive service network.
From the insurance company’s perspective, these are motorhomes; both third-party liability and comprehensive cover are calculated in the same way as for a motorhome, not as for a van. You can purchase an annual motorway vignette (CZK 2,570 in 2026) online at edalnice.cz; it applies to M1 vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. The same conditions apply across the EU. If you use the campervan seasonally, seasonal insurance products are a good option – you only pay for the months when you actually drive. It is also possible to take out additional cover for equipment or luggage on an individual basis.
Depending on the layout, the Adria Twin offers various bed configurations: a transverse double bed at the rear, longitudinal single beds, an electrically operated lift-up bed with storage space underneath, or a third bed in the dining area. The kitchenette features an integrated gas hob, sink, fridge (usually 84 litres), worktop and storage space. It is equipped with a toilet and washbasin with a folding screen that creates a shower cubicle.
As standard, the Adria motorhome comes with a 100-litre fresh water tank, a 75-litre waste water tank and space for one 11-kg gas cylinder. In practical terms, this allows a couple to spend 3–5 days away from a campsite whilst maintaining normal usage (showering, toilet, cooking, evening lighting). For longer stays, we recommend an upgrade: a second gas cylinder, a lithium battery and a solar panel. With this setup, you can manage 7–10 days off the grid. You can top up your water at service areas, petrol stations, campsites or at some caravan shops.
New motorhome: Adria warranty of 24 months on the vehicle and bodywork, 10 years on watertightness (subject to an annual leak test at an authorised service centre); the warranty on the Fiat/Citroën/MB/Ford chassis and engine is also 2 years as standard, but can be extended up to 5 years. Risks with used vehicles from unauthorised dealers: hidden moisture issues, worn upholstery, condition of the service battery, unclear history. For used vehicles, we recommend a moisture meter inspection and a complete service history – within our network, we carry out pre-sale inspections even on vehicles from competitors.
