8 steps to winterising your caravan properly: drain the water, tidy up, remove the battery, check the technical condition. A handy checklist for caravan owners before a long break.

How do you winterise a motorhome or caravan?

Are you more of a holiday-type traveler? If you are preparing your caravan or motorhome to stable for the winter, we have 8 useful steps on how to properly winterize it. ❄️

💧Remove all water from the vehicle

Water could damage the piping system at low temperatures. First drain the central tank, then open the valves on the individual hoses (sink, toilet, bathroom). Keep all taps with hot and cold water open until water flows from them.

Drain the water from the flushing tank. Alternatively, have the waste system cleaned with a suitable preparation.

For complete certainty: pipes blow through with air or use a special device.

🧹Clean up properly

Car vacuum — especially under the sofa and in inaccessible places. Wipe the dust and disinfect the surfaces. Ventilation is important: leave all cabinets open, the refrigerator and oven doors ajar.

Place inside against mold and odors dehumidifier. We also recommend mouse traps and a product against moths.

Do not leave the blinds drawn — you will relieve their springs. Just the curtains are enough.

🛏Pillows and bedding

Either put them into vacuum bags and leave them in the caravan, or take them home if you have the space.

🍪Put away all the food

Including tea, coffee, sugar, salt, cereals. Anything edible attracts pests. Canned food should get through the winter just fine.

🔧Check the technical condition

Walk around the vehicle from all sides — look for loose seals, damaged roof panels. Wash caravan from the outside including the roof. Apply protective varnishLubricate locks and seals with silicone oil.

Turn off the gas. For safety, remove the gas cylinders and place them in a dry location away from potential fire. Make sure the cylinders are properly tightened.

🚙Tire pressure

The pressure should correspond to the manufacturer's parameters. To relieve point load occasionally push the car slightly. You can completely relieve the tires by lifting the caravan with a jack (flat surface required).

Lock the wheels and Do not apply the handbrake — you will relieve mechanical parts.

🔋Remove the battery

Place it in dry environment room temperature — the cold could irreparably damage it. From time to time, plug and recharge, inaction is also harmful.

🏠Under a carport or in a garage

The last step is place the caravan under a carport, in a garage, or use a breathable tarpaulin. Important: the tarpaulin must be sufficiently breathable.
