Many manufacturers claim that Electric cars are the future — but can they tow a heavy caravan? At Adria Inspirations, Chris Gati talked about it, who with his Adoru 613 PK drives a Tesla. How does it perform in practice?
Tesla Model X Long Range (2019)
Adria Adora 613 PK (2019)
Story: three years ago
When we bought our first electric car three years ago, The Tesla Model X was the only one an EV option that could tow a caravan. My wife heads the sustainability department at a Norwegian company — we never considered going back to a fossil fuel car.
Today, a list of electric cars capable of towing such a heavy caravan as the Adora 613 PK has expanded significantly. Even today, there are plug-in EVs that powers the caravan over the weekend during free camping.
Route planning and charging
Maps with chargers — they are increasing year by year
When we started, the journey required a certain degree of planning. Today there are charger maps, which are rapidly increasing. We prefer Tesla superchargers, but on the way we will join any nearest one.
Range with a caravan: 230–250 km
A full charge will give Range ~230–250 km — depends on the weather and wind.
Why EVs are ideal for towing
Surprisingly — Electric cars are ideal for towing!
They are Heavy and they have Long wheelbase. The center of gravity is low because the large batteries are under the floor. S performance There is usually no difficulty in towing a caravan.
The only problem: range
Towing a caravan Reduces the range in half. The most important factors increasing consumption:
Width, speed and aerodynamics — far more important than weight and length. The principle: air resistance increases with speed.
Speed increase from 60 → 90 km/h doubles air resistance.
