The 10 most common mistakes when travelling with a caravan

Too fast a pace, the wrong choice of vehicle, problems with the awning, forgotten cables. The nine most common mistakes made by caravanners — and how to avoid them.

The 10 most common mistakes when travelling with a caravan

Even a master carpenter sometimes makes a mistake — even the most experienced motorhome drivers sometimes forget to retract the awning or close a cabinet. Nine most common mistakeswe make when traveling with a caravan.

1

You drive too far in too short a time

Many travelers try to do as much as possible in as short a time as possible. But nothing brings greater stress than a fast pace. When you drive 6 hours every day, there is no time for fun or rest.

Slow down. Plan a less demanding route. Go on shorter trips. Enjoy your motorhome!
2

You bought a vehicle that doesn't suit you

If you jump in headfirst and buy the first vehicle you come across, there is a high probabilitythat it will not suit you.

Before buying carefully consider many things —we have a separate guide for that. We highly recommend trying the vehicle before purchase.
Mango Drive trick: in our rental Mango Drive the rental price will be deducted from the total price of a vehicle purchased at Adria branches.

Problems with the awning

The awning provides shade, protection from rain, and a pleasant outdoor seating area. But a few seconds of strong wind and rainand the awning breaks.

At the first signs of bad weather roll up the awning. Never leave it extended when you go on a trip.
4

Before driving, you forget to disconnect cables

Have you already seen the motorhome driving on the road dragging an electric cable or sewer hose? Funny idea — when you are not in that situation.

When packing and leaving the campsite disconnect the recreational vehicle from all utility networks — as the first thing.
5

You are in a camp with bad neighbors

Camps are small communities. Consider others.

No loud music, clean up after your dog, do not leave a mess after leaving.
6

You pack too much

A spacious motorhome invites you to pack as much as possible. But before packing, think about whether you really need everything. Even motorhomes have weight limits.

Before you start filling storage space with duvets, jars, books, or garden furniture — consider what you will actually use.
7

You forget to check everything before departure

Before every trip check the vehicle thoroughly — it will save you a lot of potential problems and money.

Don’t know what to check? We have a check guide — tires, water, battery, gas, engine, lights.
8

You won’t defrost the freezer

During long trips, the freezer is priceless. Even worse is the surprise when you find only an icy pantry.

Bonus: a frozen freezer consumes up to 30% more energy.
9

You have no experience driving a motorhome

Motorhomes are not passenger cars — they are tall, long, and heavy. Learning to slow down in the wind, turn, and reverse will take time.

Take the vehicle to a large empty parking lot and practice, practice, practice. You can take a motorhome driving course or ask other drivers for advice.
