Up to 3.5 t: A time-based rovinieta is required on the national road network. The existing regime under OG 15/2002 remains in force until 30/9/2026; the law distinguishes passenger vehicles and goods-vehicle categories. For a motorhome, the category must be selected according to the registration certificate and confirmed with CNAIR if unclear. Over 3.5 t: As of 12/7/2026, the time-based rovinieta still applies under the existing regime; the launch of the new rovinieta/TollRo system was postponed by Act No. 103/2026 until 1/10/2026. TollRo is intended for vehicles designed to carry goods over 3.5 t, so a goods-vehicle category cannot be applied to an M1 motorhome without checking its registration. A new verification is required before travel after 1/10/2026.

No uniform nationwide rule for sleeping inside a motorhome outside a campsite could be verified from official sources. Protected-area authorities may permit camping only at marked campsites and prohibit it elsewhere; for release, use registered campsites or expressly permitted sites and check local or park rules.
