Karlštejn
Charles IV's Gothic castle on a rocky promontory in the middle of the Bohemian Karst, just thirty kilometres from Prague and continuously open to the public since 1905. It is barely 51 kilometres from our Příbram branch, making it easy to visit the castle and the surrounding limestone quarries and viewpoints over a weekend.
It is 51 kilometres from the Příbram branch on an actual motorhome route. Wild camping is not permitted in the Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area, so go straight to Autokemp Karlštejn beneath the castle. In the evening, there will still be time for a walk through the village below the castle and a first view of its silhouette above the Berounka valley.
Buy tickets in advance and tour the castle before the coach crowds arrive. In the afternoon, visit a viewpoint above the flooded Velká Amerika and Malá Amerika quarries. If you want to spend the night closer to the river, move your base to Autocamp Ostrov in Zadní Třebáň.
Vehicles up to 3.5 t need an electronic vignette on toll motorways; vehicles over 3.5 t use electronic tolling.
Autokemp Karlštejn or Autocamp Ostrov in Zadní Třebáň. Check availability before travelling.
In the Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area, use a campsite or official motorhome stopover; do not spend the night in an unmarked car park.
Refill drinking water at a campsite or designated service point.
Adria Twin
A compact Twin campervan is well suited to the approach below the castle and the narrow local car parks—it parks almost like a van and lets you explore the Bohemian Karst without worrying about narrow roads.
