Provençal vineyards, the small town of Sisteron at the beginning of the Durance river valley in southern France, and the deep Verdon Gorge are all within reach. It is a long 1,227 kilometres from the Příbram branch, so allow time for the journey and treat the first days as a gradual drive south.

Itinerary
Day 1Setting off for Southern France

A substantial journey of 1,227 kilometres awaits you from the Příbram branch, so devote the first day mainly to the drive. For vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, expect a higher toll class in France; motorhomes fall into class 3 or 4 depending on height and number of axles, so keep that in mind when planning your toll budget.

Day 2Arrival in Provence and Sisteron

On the second day, arrive in Provence at Sisteron, a town at the beginning of the Durance valley with just under eight thousand residents, where the landscape opens into the Alpine foothills. Aire Municipale Gare S.N.C.F. Sisteron, with wastewater disposal, is useful for servicing. Outside cities and coastal areas, overnight parking is often tolerated thanks to the dense network of aires de service, but restrictions apply in nature parks.

Day 3Verdon Gorge and the Provençal Landscape

The third day is devoted to Verdon Gorge and the surrounding vineyards. For a quieter night with water and a shower, use Les Prés Hauts campsite or Aire de services Melchior Donnet, which offers waste disposal and electricity. Do not rely on wild camping in the protected areas around the gorge; it is restricted here.

Day 4The Final Day in Provence and the Return Journey

Keep the final day for soaking up the atmosphere, tasting local wines and slowly saying goodbye to the south before the long journey home. For replenishing supplies and emptying the tanks, one option is Aire de Camping-Car à la ferme le Domaine d'Aimel, right at the farm. Before setting off, check the toll unit and the budget for the return route.
